Biography

Since 2012, Sandra Lieners has regularly exhibited her work in Austria and Italy – where she studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. After graduating in visual arts she returns to Luxembourg where her work is part of various public and private collections. In 2017, she is selected for the artist residency “Painting and Mixed Media” at the SVA in New York where she lives and works for a month and a half.

The young artist’s work has grown in scope and is currently being shown in large formats. Her captivating works, inspired by photos, mix real and abstract scenes.

Exceptional work is done on distortions and interactions between sharpness and blur. Indeed, the deliberately low resolution of the paintings gives free rein to the viewer’s imagination … A fascinating dialogue then opens up between the work, the artist and the viewer, who questions the dichotomous notions of manifest and randomness, sharpness and blur, illusion and interpretation.

The artist attempts, through the residues of his painting, to break down the myths of creation and to pay homage to the creative process. The viewer is plunged into the universe of a painting that is both precise and illusionistic of the ephemeral moments of his travels, confronted with the exposure of the “accidental residue of creation, which experiences an added value simply because of its recognition as a work of art”, notes the artist.
