Biography

Born in 1964 in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, Frank Jons has been living and working in Luxembourg since 2001. He graduated in accounting and financial studies, but he has been passionate about painting since his childhood and in 1996 decided to devote himself fully to it.

The first trigger was the Estève exhibition at the Grand Palais in 1986. Matisse, Van Gogh, Debré, Alechinsky, Rothko and Soulages, Frank Jons devoured art, but it was above all colours that caught his eye. In 2000, he undertook an 8-month trip in a camper van with his wife and child across the United States and Canada to the Arctic Circle, which will made him change his way of working because, our practical reasons, he switched from using oil to acrylic during this journey. In 2008, the Pierre Werner prize gave him recognition throughout the Luxembourg art scene. Personal exhibitions followed one another, and the public discovered his instinctive painting from which colour springs.

He is a marathon runner, a trailer, Frank Jons is a tough guy. His painting is physical, his art a chromatic explosion. “There is a kind of frenzy, a sort of trance when I paint, a form of exaltation. It’s only energy and I want it to be free from any constraint”. – Frank Jons
