The exhibition “Bon Voyage” at the Kulturhaus Diekirch provides an overview of Chantal Maquet’s travel images
“All the images were created directly and exclusively on site at the travel locations. Watercolour painting was the most obvious option to use and working with oil paints is a particularly attractive challenge. All the luggage had to be carefully prepared. Back in Strasbourg, it was easy to buy forgotten tubes of paint, but this was not possible in Cuba. In the mobile workshop, paints, brushes, rags and pallets had to be stored safely. In addition to this, you needed an easel when painting a picture. Everything had to be practical so that the artist could carry it while exploring the surroundings. In order to be able to bring the wet oil paints home safely, several years ago Chantal Maquet built herself a transport box, which explains the always consistent format of her paintings.”
